Off to the Kalahari. The journey continues.

After a hearty breakfast we set off for the Kalahari: red-gold sand, gentle dunes and endless sky. Our destination is the welcoming Kalahari Anib Lodge, a quiet retreat in the heart of this striking region.

A game drive waits in the afternoon. We head out as the setting sun turns the savannah golden, looking for oryx, springbok, and perhaps a jackal. The Kalahari at its wild, romantic best.

Journey to the World’s Oldest Desert. The Namib is calling!

We carry on after breakfast towards the legendary Namib, the oldest desert on Earth. The route runs through Mariental and Maltahöhe, past dramatic landscapes that could belong to another planet.

Your driver will gladly stop for photographs along the way, so you can capture Namibia’s vast wilderness. We eat our lunch packs around midday against a stunning desert backdrop, and reach our lodge in the afternoon, with sweeping views. The rest of the day is yours; unwind with a cool drink by the pool.

A short hike in the late afternoon brings the landscape up close, and you may spot graceful desert antelopes in the distance. We gather for dinner at the lodge restaurant in the evening, where the view is as breathtaking as the food and the sky fills with a thousand stars.

Day trip to the World-Famous Red Dunes of Sossusvlei

We set out before sunrise to see the Namib in the soft, golden light of dawn, a magical hour when the landscape comes alive in colour and contrast. Our first stop is Sesriem, the gateway to the Namib-Naukluft National Park, where the gates open with the rising sun.

A narrow tar road runs past a surreal panorama of towering dunes and desert plains to the iconic Sossusvlei and the hauntingly beautiful Deadvlei. From there we walk roughly 1.5 km across sun-baked clay pans and soft dunes to a scene like no other: the skeletons of ancient camelthorn trees, standing under the desert sun for centuries. Set against the white pan and red dunes, they are one of Namibia’s most iconic images.

Journey to the Wild Atlantic – Across the Heart of the Namib

Today’s route runs from the golden sands of the desert to the wild shores of the Atlantic. The Namib shows its many faces along the way – serene, rugged, vast, endlessly fascinating. You pass dramatic mountain ranges, glowing red dunes, and the breathtaking Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons before reaching the barren plains of the western Namib.

On really hot days you may see a mirage shimmer, with distant pools of water floating above the horizon. Keep your eyes open for typical desert wildlife along the way: elegant oryx, quick-footed springbok, proud ostriches, and, with luck, a giraffe crossing the arid plains. One of Africa’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, all the way to the untamed ocean.

A Day of Discovery: The “Little 5” or a Marine Adventure with Seals & Dolphins.

You can choose between two extraordinary experiences today, a thrilling Living Desert Tour or a relaxed boat safari to the seals of Walvis Bay. Please note: both must be booked in advance.

Living Desert Tour
We pick you up from your hotel at 08:00. A 4×4 takes you into the dune belt south of Swakopmund to look for the elusive “Little 5”: geckos, snakes, chameleons, spiders, and other masters of camouflage. Your guide opens up the secrets of the fragile dune ecosystem and the hidden life beneath the sand.

Marine Dolphin & Seal Cruise
The alternative is an unforgettable boat safari. We collect you from your hotel early in the morning and drive to the harbour in Walvis Bay. A luxurious catamaran takes you along the lagoon to Pelican Point and its large seal colony. Playful bottlenose and Heaviside dolphins may join you on the way, and Cape fur seals swim right up to the boat. Sip sparkling wine and enjoy fresh Walvis Bay oysters as you drift through this coastal paradise. You are back in Swakopmund around midday.

From the Atlantic to the Heart of Damaraland – Tracing Ancient Cultures

We say goodbye to the cool Atlantic coast today and head inland to remote, mystical Damaraland. From Swakopmund we drive north along the rugged shoreline to Henties Bay, then turn inland through ever-changing country. You pass Namibia’s highest peak on the way, the majestic Brandberg – “Fire Mountain,” named for the way it glows red at sunset.

You reach Twyfelfontein in the afternoon, a place steeped in history and wonder. Your guide can take you on an optional excursion to the famous rock engravings, left by indigenous hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago. The Organ Pipes are worth seeing too: vertical basalt columns, almost man-made in their symmetry.

In Search of Desert Elephants

You have time to explore the country around Twyfelfontein, where ancient history meets raw natural beauty. Marvel at rock engravings cut into the stone by early hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago. See the stunning Organ Pipes, and visit the mysterious Burnt Mountain, whose dark rocks look scorched by ancient fire.

The most unforgettable moment comes when you least expect it: a sighting of the famous desert-adapted elephants. With a bit of luck you meet these true survivors of Damaraland’s harsh conditions – a day of ancient stories, natural wonders, and encounters you will not forget.

Namibia’s Petrified Forest. On the Road to Etosha’s Wildlife

Your journey turns north towards one of Namibia’s crown jewels, the Etosha National Park. A geological wonder comes first, though: Namibia’s Petrified Forest.

You stop to explore massive fossilised tree trunks lying silent in the desert soil. These giants once formed a prehistoric forest and turned to stone over millions of years, preserved by time, pressure, and mineral-rich water, an incredible glimpse into Earth’s deep past.

You reach your lodge in the afternoon, set near the southern entrance of Etosha National Park. The rest of the day is yours: relax, or join an optional afternoon game drive from the lodge. The wild heart of Etosha is just around the corner.

A Full Day in Etosha National Park. Pure Wilderness!

You have a full day to explore the legendary Etosha National Park. Keep your binoculars ready. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times for game. You visit several waterholes around the vast salt pan, where elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, and much else come to drink.

The African wilderness shows its full diversity here, and patience pays off. Watch the sun set at the Okaukuejo waterhole as the day winds down, animals settling in for the night while the landscape turns gold. A day of adventure, quiet, and natural wonder, a true highlight of the journey!

Onguma Nature Reserve: Safari through the Heart of Etosha

Your safari starts early after a hearty breakfast. We enter Etosha National Park through the Andersson Gate and drive from Okaukuejo along the southern edge of the salt pan. The open, sparse vegetation lets you pick out animals a long way off. A magical place where the vastness of Africa comes alive.

We stop at the Halali rest camp at midday for a well-earned break, then visit the old German Fort Namutoni, a fascinating relic of Namibia’s colonial past. We have to be out of the park by sunset to protect the wildlife. A beautiful lodge waits on the eastern side after a day of wild encounters.

The Fascinating Wildlife of Mount Etjo. Optional Lion Feeding.

Well-maintained tar and gravel roads take you after breakfast to the breathtaking Mount Etjo Safari Lodge. It lies in a vast private game reserve that holds much of Southern Africa’s iconic wildlife, from zebras to rhinos. The lodge sits beside a small lake where hippos live and other animals come to drink.

Optional: You can watch the lion feeding in the evening, a powerful encounter with Africa’s most iconic big cat (bookable on site, not included in the tour price).

En Route: The Mysterious Otjikoto Lake
Your driver may make a detour to Lake Otjikoto, one of Namibia’s only permanent natural lakes, formed when a limestone cave collapsed. It measures more than 100 metres across and over 100 metres deep, and carries as much legend as natural wonder: German Schutztruppe dumped their weapons here in the First World War. Some pieces now sit in the Tsumeb Museum, but two cannons and tons of ammunition are still down there. Legend adds a sealed safe holding 6 million gold marks, thrown in and never found.
