DAY 04: Sossusvlei
Day trip to the World-Famous Red Dunes of Sossusvlei
We set out early in the morning, before sunrise to witness the Namib Desert bathed in the soft, golden light of dawn. It’s a magical time when the landscape comes alive in color and contrast. Our first stop is Sesriem, the gateway to the breathtaking Namib-Naukluft National Park. The gates open with the rising sun, welcoming us into a world of sand and silence.
A narrow tar road leads us past a surreal panorama of towering dunes and vast desert plains, taking us to the iconic Sossusvlei and the hauntingly beautiful Deadvlei. Here, we begin a roughly 1.5 km walk across sun-baked clay pans and soft dunes. At the end lies a scene like no other: the skeletal remains of ancient camelthorn trees, standing for centuries under the desert sun – stark, silent, and stunning. These blackened tree trunks set against the white pan and red dunes have become one of Namibia’s most iconic images. A day that etches itself into memory.

DAY 05: Swakopmund
Journey to the Wild Atlantic – Across the Heart of the Namib
Today’s route takes you on a spectacular journey – from the golden sands of the desert to the wild shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, the Namib reveals its many faces: serene, rugged, vast, and endlessly fascinating. You’ll pass through dramatic mountain ranges, glowing red dunes, and the breathtaking Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons, eventually reaching the barren plains of the western Namib, where the scenery becomes almost otherworldly.
On particularly hot days, you might witness the shimmering illusion of a mirage, with distant pools of water seeming to float just above the horizon. With keen eyes, you’ll likely spot typical desert wildlife along the way: elegant oryx, quick-footed springbok, proud ostriches, and – if luck is on your side – perhaps even a giraffe strolling calmly across the arid plains. A journey through one of Africa’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, all the way to the untamed ocean.

Today, you have the chance to choose between two extraordinary experiences – a thrilling Living Desert Tour or a relaxing boat safari to visit the seals of Walvis Bay. Please note: These activities must be booked in advance.
Living Desert Tour – The Small Wonders of the Namib
At 08:00 AM, you’ll be picked up directly from your hotel. A 4×4 adventure takes you into the dune belt south of Swakopmund, in search of the elusive “Little 5”: geckos, snakes, chameleons, spiders, and other desert survivors – all masters of camouflage and adaptation. With expert guidance, you’ll uncover the secrets of the fragile dune ecosystem, gaining a deep appreciation for the hidden life beneath the sand.
Marine Dolphin & Seal Cruise – With Oysters and Sparkling Wine
Alternatively, embark on an unforgettable boat safari: Early in the morning, you’ll be picked up at your hotel reception and taken to the harbor in Walvis Bay. A luxurious catamaran awaits, ready to take you along the lagoon toward Pelican Point, home to a large seal colony. On the way, you may be joined by playful bottlenose and Heaviside dolphins, while Cape fur seals swim up close to the boat. Sip on a glass of sparkling wine and savor fresh Walvis Bay oysters as you drift through this coastal paradise. You’ll return to Swakopmund around midday with memories to last a lifetime.

Today, we say goodbye to the cool Atlantic coast as the journey takes us inland to the remote and mystical Damaraland. From Swakopmund, we travel north along the rugged shoreline to Henties Bay, then head inland across ever-changing landscapes. Along the way, you’ll pass Namibia’s highest peak – the majestic Brandberg Mountain. Its name, “Fire Mountain,” comes from the way it glows red at sunset, as if the last rays of light set the rock ablaze. A breathtaking moment.
In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at Twyfelfontein, a place steeped in history and wonder. If you wish, you can join your guide for an optional excursion to see the famous rock engravings – ancient petroglyphs left behind by indigenous hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago. Also worth visiting are the Organ Pipes, a fascinating natural rock formation of vertical basalt columns that look almost man-made in their symmetry.
Please note: Entrance fees to these sites are not included in the tour price and must be paid locally. Your guide will be happy to help with the arrangements.

Discover the stunning Organ Pipes, a natural formation of vertical basalt columns, and visit the mysterious Burnt Mountain, whose dark, shimmering rocks look as though they were scorched by ancient fire.
But perhaps the day’s most unforgettable moment comes when you least expect it: the sighting of the famous desert-adapted elephants. As you pass through this region, you’ll stop to explore massive, fossilized tree trunks, lying silent in the desert soil. These ancient giants, once part of a prehistoric forest, have turned to stone over millions of years preserved by time, pressure, and mineral-rich waters. A brief stop here allows you to take in this incredible glimpse into Earth’s deep past.
In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at your lodge, peacefully located near the southern entrance of Etosha National Park. This is a magical place where the vastness of Africa truly comes alive.
At midday, we stop at the Halali rest camp for a well-deserved break and some relaxation. Next, we visit the historic old German Fort Namutoni, a fascinating relic from Namibia’s colonial past. The area is home to a wide range of Southern Africa’s iconic wildlife from zebras to rhinos. The lodge is beautifully set by a small lake, inhabited by hippos, and regularly visited by other animals coming to drink – a truly magical sight.
Optional: In the evening, you may choose to attend the lion feeding – a powerful experience that brings you close to Africa’s most iconic big cat (can be booked on-site, not included in the tour price).
En Route: The Mysterious Otjikoto Lake
Along the way, your driver may take a detour to Lake Otjikoto – one of Namibia’s only permanent natural lakes, formed by the collapse of a limestone cave. Mysterious and deep, it’s steeped in both natural wonder and wartime legend. With a diameter of over 100 meters and depths reaching more than 100 meters, the lake became a WWI dumping ground for German Schutztruppe weapons. Some of these artifacts have been recovered and are displayed in the Tsumeb Museum, but others, including two cannons and tons of ammunition, remain submerged. Legend even tells of a sealed safe containing 6 million gold marks, thrown into the lake and never found…
